Turning Point Brooklyn Education Center

Agency Location:
423 39th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11232

Agency Description:
The Turning Point Education Center provides ABE-HSE and ESOL education, workforce and college readiness, and internships to the diverse Sunset Park Community. In addition, we offer an array of counseling and case management services to support participant success.

Agency Highlight:
Li Jing Han entered the Turning Point Brooklyn Education Center (TPBK) as an ESOL student who eventually advanced to the HSE program. The student took the TASC exam, passed all but one subject. She recently took the last exam and is awaiting her results. She completed the Opportunity Youth internship program and currently works as an administrative support intern at the Ed Center. She participated and performed in a Theatre of the Oppressed program hosted here last year.

Through the student’s experiences at Turning Point she has become a more confident speaker and person in general. The breakthroughs that stand out the most are: Her breakthrough as a student advancing from the ESOL program to the HSE program. Her breakthrough as a shy student to a confident student/intern/actor. Recently Li Jing was one of two student representatives during a visit by one of our funders, and she communicated effectively, demonstrating how her confidence and fluency in English have grown.

Registration Information:
Students can visit our center Monday-Friday, 9 to 5, register and take a placement test.
