Harlem Center for Education

Agency Location:
1 E. 104th Street, PH Level New York, NY 10029

Agency Description:
The Harlem Center for Education Adult Literacy Education program serves 60 adult learners per year in Adult Basic Education and Pre-TASC courses throughout the year. Classes are offered Monday - Thursday from 10:00am - 1:00pm and 2:30pm - 5:30pm. Registration and placement testing is held every Friday at 10:30am at our office.

Agency Highlight:
Our program has had several students move from ABE or PRE-TASC classes to TASC level classes and then pass the TASC exam within one year. This is a considerable achievement that takes dedication and hard work on behalf of students. One of our students who achieved this is Marwa Mahmud. Marwa was enrolled in our Pre-TASC class last year and then into TASC classes, and passed the exam on her first try. These kinds of successes validate some of the features of our program, such as focusing on one subject area at a time and using diagnostics to improve areas of weakness.

Registration Information:
Interested students can contact James Ruffin, Case Manager at (646) 524-5563, ext. 2. Walk-in placement testing is held every Friday at 10:30am; no appointment necessary.
